The Healthy Church

How do we judge the health of a church? In our day we do so by looking at numerical growth. If there are a great many people we assume that God is blessing and things are going well. But is this the biblical standard of a spiritually healthy church?

The biblical record of Acts reveals some interesting elements regarding a spiritually healthy church. In our text we learn of the key elements for building a spiritually healthy church. Let us look at what the Bible declares as the key elements for a healthy church, (Acts 2:42). (Presented in 5 Lessons)

How Does A Church Die?

How does a church die? The answer is revealed in our Lord’s message to the Church in Sardis, Revelation 3:1-6.

This was a church that was active but in reality was spiritually dried up. There was a form of godliness but there was no spiritual power. What causes a church to dry up spiritually? The answer is to be found in one important element – TRUTH.

The church is called “The Pillar of Truth” by Paul in 1Timothy 3:15. When a church abandons the truth of God that church will dry up spiritually and have no power.
A church dies when…

· She ceases to Love the Truth

· She ceases to Live the Truth

· She ceases to Loosen the Truth

Join in with us as we examine this all important message of our Lord. This is a message that is for us today as it was for the saints in Sardis.

Motivated For Ministry

How was it that the early church turned their world up-side-down with the gospel of Jesus Christ and we can not do the dame in our own day? The answer is to be found in Acts 1:6-12.
It is the moment when our Lord returns to the Father's house. As He departs from His disciples we learn of the impact of this moment upon them. Ther are 3 things that made an impact upon them as our Lord ascends back to heaven.

Something they were looking at.

Something they were listening to.

Somethin they were leaving with.

Within these 3 things we find the motivation for ministry for the early church. To discover this 3-fold impact is to rediscover the biblical motivation for ministry.

Where are the watchmen of our day? Have we simply fallen asleep and unaware of the things that are happening all around us? God tells Ezekiel that he is to be God's Watchman.

God gives Ezekiel the following;

1. A Ministry

2. A Message

3. A Motivation

From Ezekiel's experience we learn what our role is to be in these last days. Let us determine to stand upon the wall and warn of the designs of the enemy so that we might keep safe the people of God and see the lost come to Jesus for salvation.

The Parable of the Wheat and Tares. There is only one good seed, all other seed is corrupted and profane. We must ask ourselves of what kind of seed we are? Are we of the Good seed or of the Bad seed? As God seeks to plant His Good seed (the Word) in the lives of individuals, we must understand that Satan seeks to plant a corrupted seed in the lives of individuals as well.

As the time of harvest quickly approaches there is going to be a time of separation. The good seed will be separated from the profane. The question is where will you stand in the moment of the final harvest?

Knowing who we are as the people of God is the key to knowing what we are called to do as the people of God. Peter sets before us a 4-fold description of who we are as the people of God. He will then tell us what we are to do in light of who we are. Let us learn the truths of this great portion of God's word so that we can shine for our Savior.

The gospel of Jesus Christ cannot be divided or shared with any other message - it is unique!
Jesus leaves no room for one to add to or to take from his gospel. It is simple and straightforward - "I am the way, the truth, and the life..."
One can be offended by such a message or one can believe and enter into a relationship with God through Jesus Christ his Son. The choice is ours to make but also the consequence is ours to take. Jesus tells us what we need to know and how we are to respond - will we believe Him?

The story of the Rich Young Ruler gives us great insights into the mindset of the lost of this world. This young man came to Jesus but he did so on his own terms. He comes to Jesus having in his mind a mistaken understanding of...

Who Jesus was,

What Jesus came to do,

What the difference between religion and relationship meant.

He comes at the right time, asking the right questions and he receives the right answer but he walks away from Jesus a very disappointed man. Though Jesus loved him, Jesus let him go his way. If one would come to Jesus one must come on God's terms not their own.

The time of the end is not the end of time. God has a divine design for both humanity and earth. The time of the end will come but the process is not really the key to understanding the time of the end - it is the purpose of God in the time of the end that is the real key.
What is God's original design? To answer this question is the key to understanding what the purpose of God will be in the events that bring forth the time of the end. The truth of the matter is seen in the fact that the end is found in the beginning. Before we can look forward let us take a look back to the beginning and see God's blueprint.

We need to understand a misunderstood attribute of God - His jealousy. WIthin the story of Phinehas we learn about the jealousy of God. Phinehas will take what would appear to be extreme measures but when one understands the honor of God then one can understand the concept of God's jealousy.

The Story of Phinehas builds upon 3 lines:
1. What he understood
2. What he undertook
3. What he underscores

Let us learn the lessons of honoring God in a world that dishonors Him.
